About This Site
Is My Food Still Good? answers the question everyone asks standing at the fridge door: "Can I still eat this?"
We built a free, instant food safety checker covering 150 common foods — from leftover pizza to raw chicken to opened almond milk. Tell it what the food is, where it's been stored, and for how long, and you get a straight answer: eat it, eat it soon, or toss it.
Where our numbers come from
Every storage window on this site is based on publicly available guidance from the USDA FoodKeeper database and FDA home food storage recommendations, assuming proper storage temperatures (refrigerator at or below 40°F / 4°C, freezer at 0°F / −18°C).
We translate that guidance into plain language and simple verdicts. We don't invent numbers, and where official guidance gives ranges, we err on the cautious side.
What this site is not
This site provides general guidance, not guarantees. Storage conditions vary — a fridge door shelf is warmer than the back wall, a summer kitchen is warmer than a winter one. Food that has been mishandled can be unsafe well within any published window. When in doubt, throw it out. Nothing here is medical advice; if you suspect food poisoning, contact a medical professional.
Why we made it
Food safety information exists, but it's scattered across PDFs, agency databases, and conflicting blog posts. We wanted the answer in two seconds, not twenty minutes of searching. Judging by how often our own household uses it, we suspect you'll find it useful too.
Have a food we're missing or a correction to suggest? Tell us — the database improves because people write in.
